APPROACHFrugal Engineering · Open Source · Capability Building

Deepak’s journey is rooted in a simple but ambitious idea: advanced technology should not remain concentrated within established technology hubs.

His experience spans open-source engineering, frugal innovation, AI, digital public infrastructure, financial inclusion, and inclusive talent development — with a consistent focus on building capabilities that last.

A chemistry graduate from a small town in Odisha, India, Deepak built his career by combining entrepreneurial grit with deep expertise in open-source engineering.

He founded Prodevans from the ground up, bootstrapping the company with an initial investment of just $1,000 and scaling it into an $18 million enterprise within six years.

His approach has consistently been rooted in frugal engineering, reusable technology patterns, and building sustainable engineering capabilities rather than relying primarily on lateral hiring.

“Train, certify, and deploy”

A distinctive model for creating pathways for fresh talent to enter the technology industry.

Long before open-source technologies became mainstream in enterprise environments, Deepak was working to address India’s technology and skills gap.

Through academic and industry initiatives, he has trained more than 100,000 students and partnered with 100+ universities across India.

At institutions such as KL University, his initiatives have helped thousands of students gain certifications in enterprise open-source middleware and related technologies.

By taking training in areas such as DevOps, Kubernetes, and AI to Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities, he has helped connect small-town talent with global technology opportunities and enabled engineering teams in India to deliver solutions for enterprises across the US, Europe, ANZ, and Singapore.

Building technology
for digital sovereignty.

Deepak’s work extends beyond enterprise technology into digital public infrastructure and financial inclusion at national scale.

Through Prodevans, he has been closely involved in building technology infrastructure supporting India’s Digital Rupee (e₹) CBDC ecosystem.

This includes Retail Token Service Provider and Digital Token Service Provider capabilities built using open-source technologies such as Hyperledger and Kubernetes.

The organisation has supported State Bank of India’s CBDC implementation and the onboarding of more than three million wallets.

The team has also contributed to cross-border CBDC payment initiatives showcased at the Singapore FinTech Festival.

“How can complex, high-scale technologies — from open-source cloud architectures and AI to sovereign digital currencies — be made reliable, scalable, affordable, and accessible enough to create opportunity for communities and contribute to the growth of entire economies?”

Deepak brings to this conversation not only the perspective of an entrepreneur and technology architect, but also the practical experience of building technology capabilities, enterprises, and talent ecosystems from the ground up.
